EVGA SuperNOVA 650W G2 review/unboxing (Pic heavy)

I got this PSU as a Christmas gift from my father. Came really nicely boxed (See Figure 1) and after opening the box, I was surprised at how nice the cable sleeving was, it's a fairly glossy material, but nice enough.

 

The cable selections could have been better (Figure 2), as the PCI-E cables had 1 6+2 and 1 6 pin per cable (With 2 cables in total).

There were also 3 SATA power cables, with 3 SATA power connectors each, for a (seemingly excessive) total of 9 connectors. The CPU power cable has both an 8pin EPS connector, and another 4+4pin CPU connector, in case you are running a high power overclocking board, or a dual CPU server board, and it specifies in the manual to only use one, except for either of the usage scenarios that are named. The cables weren't as flexible as they could have been, as many of them have capacitors in the wire near the connector to the motherboard, this also means that there is a lot of ugly heatshrink on the cables. In addition, there was a very cute Molex to Floppy adapter, but unfortunately unsleeved.

 

The box also came with a pouch (Figure 3) for accessories and spare cables, as well as a power supply tester (Which just connects the power on pin to ground (Figure 4)), some velcro cable ties, and 4 screws for the power supply (Not thumbscrews)

 

The unit itself is a little less glossy than the cables, and looks powder coated. The main feature on the top of the unit is a HUGE 140mm dual ball bearing fan, with an EVGA E on the top in silver (Figure 5). The cable ports (Figure 6), are pretty standard, but can be a little close together, even for my tiny fingers. The rear is honeycomb mesh with a standard power connector for the mains lead.

They were in JPEG, but I much prefer PNG as there seems to be less quality loss.

Typically I do JPEG with the quality at 100 with larger images.

Meanwhile I am just smugly sitting here with the fact that I managed to score an RM650x for £10 less than that, which is a better PSU in pretty much every way, and comes wrapped in a velvet bag (like wtf )

yes, I have the 750 version in my QX6800 build and the 1000 in my 3960X build, EVGA builds great PSUs! Great review!

Good thing you didn't get the G1 version. I have one, and although it holds its own with multi-card overclocked setups, the fan in mine is loud as tits.
