How well will my GTX 580 handle Drag Age Inquisition & Shadow of Mordor?

LokiFire

Keeping in mind my CPU, and this card is at almost 1ghz, it's VERY fast for a Fermi card with that kind of OC, it's around GTX 960 levels, just lacking 512MB of Vram.

OK cool, seems i should be fine then, hopefully i can push it a bit higher in Shadow of Mordor, my memory clock is also very high for the Fermi arch, it reduces time spent in Vram the faster you clock your memory, so vs a standard 580 it may handle more memory intensive stuff.

Unless Thermi has HBM then your memory OC will not help when the game needs 2GB

My old R9 270 handled Shadow of Mordor at medium-high settings fairly well. I got a consistent 50-60 FPS if I remember correctly, and that was with almost all of the settings set to high. The GTX 580 overclocked to those levels should be more capable than that.

Why is the God of Hyperdeath SO...DARN...CUTE!?

This is the specs after the OC.

http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/details.php?id=6b9cv

1.5GB of GDDR5 does not perform as 2GB no matter how much you OC. HBM has 4 TIMES higher bandwidth and a massive bus allowing for LARGE files to be swapped out FAST

The 960 is nowhere close to the 580 on memory bandwidth, but i am comparing very different architectures too.

You missed the point entirely, the faster you clock Vram, the less time stuff in Vram stays there, in essence reducing Vram load, it's a true method, it won't be a huge leap but it will be there, and will provide superior memory performance over the stock 580.

The reason HBM has it the way it does is the MASSIVE bus that is 13 times larger. That allows for 13 times larger files to be moved at once

I don't think he'll be able to run DA:I maxed, with a smooth framerate. Heck, my GTX 980 dips to ~50fps depending on what's going on. And it's paired with an i7 4790k.

I'm not even talking about HBM, 200+GB/s is overkill at 1080p, this is why Fermi were stronger cards than their limited Vram allowed for, in some ways i should have gone for the 3GB version but it was 25 quid more expensive too.

I mean without AA. I don't regard AA as something worth using

But Thermi were also horribly inefficient - hence why the 5870 with 1GB outperformed the 1.5GB 480 even when VRAM was important. 580 is a lot better than the 480 but still Thermi

1.5GB vs 2GB

I know, but will that make a significant difference? I never encountered VRAM issues on that card with any game whatsoever aside from Skyrim when it was HEAVILY modded. With the settings I used, Shadow of Mordor wasn't even close to maxing it out. If I recall correctly, MSI Afterburner reported it being like 1200 MB? I can't remember, but it wasn't an issue at all, and I believe it was less than 1536 MB anyway.

LOL what?? 5870 got smashed by the 480 ;)

Heh want to know something cool? Fermi even beats Kepler in Hitman Absolution, not outright but look at this...

Whilst inefficient, it has full FP64 and a tonne of compute power, it's why it stands right under GCN in these tasks, Hitman used Compute more than most games ever will.

Because the 5870 didn't ever get new drivers? It's a superior card that uses half the power.
