CPU Usage at 100%, Idling at 52~

Zauski

Hi all.

Built my pc today for christmas. Been checking up on things, updating drivers etc. Noticed that my CPU is sitting at 100% usage in MSI afterburner and in task manager and is idling at 52~. I haven't even played any games. Help?

Specs:

i5 4430

Z87X-D3H Motherboard

Arctic 11 Cooler

8GB HyperX Fury RAM

EVGA 650W Supernova NEX Gold

Gigabyte 960 G1 Gaming 2GB.

I bought the CPU as B-Grade from a very very trustworthy store that test all of their goods before they put it up. Any help? I'm really freaked out.

Did you check task manager to see what tasks are using the majority of that 100%

Why is your CPU 100% usage when at idle?

I don't know. I wouldn't be aksing otherwise

Yeah I did, it says svchost is doing it, but I don't think it could be.

Try restating and see if it resolves your high CPU usage.

Yeah I did, there isn't anything that is doing it

I would suggest going through everything, and noting which ones are using the most CPU power and listing them here, all the background programs also. BTW did you install programs on the PC like chrome and stuff or just drivers?

well that will help in the short term but if there is a program using a lot of CPU resources, or a memory leak in a closed tab of chrome for example, it will occur again until you deal with it.

Drivers, chrome, geforce experience, steam and spotify. That's it. And I will, but it's mainly just svchost

my 8 core fx never hits above 80% for more than 1 second, even when gaming. it idles at 2-13% when browsing. 30-60% when heavy gaming. I find more cores a cpu has, the less likely the chance that some bug and loop will eat up all the cpu resources, causing the entire system to freeze.

UPDATE:

Took the CPU  out and back to the shop, exchanged it and £50 for a 4670k. Used the stock cooler instead of the Arctic 11 and I'm getting good temps, CPU is no longer at 100% all the damn time.

Merry christmas to all and thanks for the help!
