So im considering buying a gaming computer but I dont know what any of it means.  I want the computer to play Star Citizen when it comes out so I realize it will need a lot of juice, as my laptop has about a 3 second delay on anything when Im just in the hangar walking around my ship, on 720p.

I want a 3 monitor setup with 120Hz and at least 1080p (I dont know how much difference 1440p makes) and I think that means I need a top dollar video card and GPU (according to youtube).  But I have no idea what I need as far as processor or motherboard, or what the differences even are.  Also I think I want Displayport connections for my monitors but I dont know if thats still the latest and greatest.

So Im curious as to what else I need that I didnt mention, and rough estimates on what I need to save $.  Also if i should bother building it and messing up, or just buy it prebuilt.  And AMD or Intel? AMD seems like the knockoff but has more processors(?) maybe?

FYI I want to play on the higher settings (Immersive as hell). and want to use HOTAS and trackIR.  Dont know if those last 2 make any difference at all to the computer.

Any help is welcome as I know very little past plugging in the power.

Edit:  I know the game isnt out Im trying to set up a budget for saving and figure out what the best approach to buying it is.

And im in the USA.

That budget can range from 2k to 10k, we need a number, and country

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Well then you'll probably want to look for something like this, includes 3 21:9 IPS Free-sync displays, you could go for 120hz or 144hz, but those are almost all going to be TN, although if you do a lot of productivity work you could invest in 3 40" 4k displays and just run the game at 1080p on them without issue

the case should fit up to 200mm PSUs, but it might be a bit tight, I switched out the PSU, it should be good to go now

although by the time you get the money the Fury X 2 might be out, which would probably be the card to get

im confused.  Isnt 4.0 ghz better than 3.3 ghz?  Im not calling you out, just uneducated and curious.

I guess my confusion is 4 cores at 1 ghz each should do more than 6 cores at .505 ghz each.

Is this part of the single thread vs multi thread stuff?  I might have used the wrong name for "thread"

Each core is at 3.3GHz. It also has 1.5x the threads, making it much better for games that will utilize it.

Also Ive never done 3 monitors.  How imperative is it that the bezels are super small?  i cant seem to find quality monitors with the super thin bezels, that arent just a product of the last quarter inch of screen edge not being functional.  Will the bezels be annoying?  Will they throw off the apparent scaling?

that makes more sense. Thank you.

Why wouldnt the one with more cores be the pricey option then? Not that im complaining

There was some sort of manufacturing issue with Skylake, so that led to shortages and a higher price.

Also i see everyone is suggesting solid state and normal hard drives.

How do you control what gets saved on the ssd and what gets saved on the bigger drive?

I know that solid state is faster access but does that effect you while in game or just things like startup?

A ssd is a drive which is faster and has no moving parts, which means it is very very likely not to break. On your ssd you would keep windows. This is due to if you keep windows on with all your games on one drive your pc would take long to boot up. Only put windows on your ssd. On a hard drive put all your games. Try to go for a 1TB or 2TB hard drive that is 1000/2000GB.

Merry Christmas!

Personal Preference. If you are buying a new 3 way monitor build go for the ASUS RoG Swift 1440p monitor. It is a bit pricy but my gosh is it a beauty and is the best monitor on the market.
