Nothing, really. Essentials are just re-releases of really popular/good selling games which often are just exactly the same game. Rarely they include a patch or whatever for a bug, but since they can also push this update via the internet they don't bother with it anymore.

nothing they are games that sold well initially and warranted a second print at a bargain price and a different box. that's it. sometimes all the DLC is included.

Essentials is just like how they had Platinum re-releases on PS2, or Player's Choice on GameCube, Nintendo Selects on Wii and 3DS, etc. etc.

They are just re-releases of good selling games, often less sought after though by collectors
