Analog's Project: Isi (ft. Corsair 350D and Asus MARS 760x2) FINISHED

Today I decided to take one of my SSDs to use on my laptop. While I was doing that I decided that's finally time to do some light modding to my Cooler Master Cosmos 1000, to improve cable management and also to clean up some of the older hardware inside.

Bear in mind that this is one of the most horrible cases when it comes to cable management. There is only 6-7mm behind the motherboard tray so everything must be as flat as possible or I wont be able to close the side panel.

UPDATE 2: ez1t.jpg

Let the work begin!

First thing is to get all the stuff needed for my little project.

Here I'm painting the blue LEDs on the back of the PCB with MOLOTOW ink.

Doing some modding to the GPU Reactor Cover. Now only the MSI logo will light up. It will look pretty sweet.

The fan looks as good as new.

The power supply is finally clean and dry. It's ready to be reassembled again and put into the system.

16ub.jpg

I made a small hole in the metal cover so that front USB can pass behind the motherboard tray.

pf7f.jpg

I melted some part of the top plastic shroud so the cables won't get caught in it. Let's see how that will fit.

End result - looking good

My own creation - a custom molex cable. It will eliminate some of the cable mess behind the motherboard. I just hope it works...

The SSD is mounted again in its perfect place. Cable management looks tight so for smile.png

Everything is back in the case and in its place.

A final glamor shot from the front of the rig.

I was thinking of making the window on the side panel tinted. Do you think that will be fine or it's not a good idea?

I wanted to buy some carbon fiber to wrap the black accents on the outside of the case, but I didn't find any.

Anyhow I hope that you enjoyed the pics and let me know what you think of my build.

Even though it was just a rebuild with minor changes like the red MSI logo, this is a very nice looking system O_o

Really a MATX motherboard in there !? /facepalm

Why do you have a problem with that?! It was either this board or the Rampage IV Extreme. The second option was way to pricey for me and this one has all the features which I could possibly want. Plus I want to buy that new Cosmos SE or the 350D.

I know, that's why my graphics card is in the 3rd slot. It hides the shorter pcb of the M-ATX motherboard as well as the front panel connectors.

It already looked pretty good, now it looks even better with all the little details. Pity the Cosmos 1000 had such great looks but also bad cable management :(.

Yup. This is pretty much the worst case when it comes to cable management, but the outside of the case is so beautiful with that brushed aluminum body and black glossy accents.

My H80 pump died a few days ago so I had to order a new liquid cooler. What I chose is the H110 form Corsair. It's supposed to arrive in a week so stay tuned guys. There will be more improvements to the system and I'll make sure to post some cool pics for you.

Today finally arrived my H110. I'm sure that there will be people who will ask about does it fit natively and the answer is - Yes. The Cosmos 1000/Pure has the option to be mounted either dual 120mm or dual 140mm fans at the top, but it only has the correct spacing for dual 140mm radiator at the top. There is more than enough room on both sides of the radiator so clearance is not an issue. Right now I have it mounted with only one set of fans (pull), but there is the option to add an other set of fans, but it'll be a very tight fit, because of the 8-pin CPU connector.

The H110 absolutely dwarfs my old H80...

Next thing on my list will be buying a new case, but it's going to be a while, because I'll be waiting for the Cosmos SE to come to market.

  • 3 weeks later...

My Corsair 350D arrived yesterday a couple of days earlier than it supposed to, nevertheless I'm very happy with it. Here is the build transfered to the new case. Hope you enjoy the pictures. :)

PS: H110 is pain in the ass to fit in this case especially when you have a LGA 2011 motherboard.

It took me time to realize it's a 2011 build and not 115X (smacking myself)

Small update guys.

Last week I bought some cheap car LED strips and with a bit of modding I managed to get them running in the system.

Night shots are pretty horrible, thanks to my very expensive but still crappy Samsung camera, but still I have included some.

Cheap Chinese car LED strips. I got both for 4USD :D

May I just say that I think that this MSI Reactor thingy on the GPU looks absolutely hidious!

The complete opposite is the build though, so sexy D:

Parts arrived earlier today. here is what I bought:

2x Noctua NF P12

1x Fan Grill

1x Fan Filter

1x 3pin Fan Extension Cable

The two Noctua fans will be used as intakes in the front of the case. Right know I have installed them in their standard configuration, without any low-noise resistors.

The fan filter and grill will be provide the possibility to turn the back exhaust fan into an intake so that there is more positive pressure in the case. The back fan will provide the H110 with more fresh air as well.

Gorgeous packaging...

The back exhaust fan is now a Corsair SP fan and is turned around as an intake. The filter and fan grill are a perfect addition to it.

Now to show off my new and improved cable management after the new additions to the build.

There will be no glamor shots of the setup, since my STRIKE 5 keyboard is currently in RMA since it died. As soon as I get it or my money back and buy something new, I'll upload some pics again.
