You can run 1440p with 970 no problem, just turn down settings.

Hehehehehe, a Razer Blade 2014. However the GPU isn't as powerful as the 970 so I figured it should be fine.

It's fine if you're playing locally but if you go on a populated server it will run like shit, HOWEVER, that is not dependant on the client and it's because of the source engine.

Team Fortress 2 is really fun, it's been sucking up all my free time lately.

Skyrim for sure. Not the best looking game now, but still looks nice IMO

Yeah, I agree with the Portal 2 recommendation. It even runs really well on my PC (60-80fps on High most of the stuff, no AA, 1080p)

bf3 with turned down settings and 90fps+ should be easily acheivable

Any Valve (Or any game in general that runs on the Quake/Gold Source/Source Game engine) will run at 12k 999FPS 45-400FPS on any computer at medium settings.
