5820K equivilant Xeon?

Go to solution Solved by Mug,

I couldn't find one that was exactly equivalent but I found two that the 5820 would go in between:

Xeon E5-2620

Xeon E5-1650

Don't know why you shouldn't just get the i7 tbh.

Could anyone please give me a xeon that is equivalent in performance (primarily video rendering and editing) to the 5820k. I will be doing some gaming as well but I do of course appreciate that gaming isn't what xeons are aimed at. The xeon needs to be compatible with dual socket LGA2011 v 3 motherboards.

Thanks,

James :D

those xeons should only be chosen if you have a server.. not for workstation use, the i7-5820K is much better at that (with overclocking)

and i think intel only has the i7-5930K and the i7-5960X in xeon form, the E5-1650 v3 and the E5-1660 v3

Closest Xeon to a 5820k that supports dual CPU configs is the E5-2643 v3 which has a turbo speed 100MHz higher than a stock 5820k.

E5-1650 v3 is the same as the 2643 v3 but without the QPI links so no dual CPU config but at this point you might as well get the i7

You might as well do the 5820k as you can overclock it and such, but I understand wanting dual socket :P

The 2620 @Mug gave you about as close as your gonna get, just at a lower clock speed

Yeh, the dual socket mobo costs just a little more and features 16 ram dimms slots, allowing me to get cheaper 8GB dimms now and still maintain the leverage of 128GB RAM. Plus I can dd the second CPU in later when I have the money and get way more PCIE lanes, as a pose to the 5820k's frankly lame 28 D:
