Hey all, I'm not new to LTT but I'm very new to the forum. I'm in a bit of a dilemma, as most of you probably know already the 6700k stock is rather low/non-existent, especially in Canada. I found out one of the Canadian E-tailers has the 6700k in stock but it costs $630... vs the 5820k at my local B&M for $540  . I mostly game and only do a bit of photo editing on the side, no real content creation so I really don't see the need for the extra 2 cores. However with the skylake prices being so sky high I don't know which direction to go. I compared both cpu's with the Z170 Deluxe/x99 Deluxe boards and the price difference is very small, about $10-$20. Many people say if the prices of both are close, it would be best to go with the 5820k as you get a premium cpu for equal or a bit more. I plan to use this setup for a good 4-6 years and I do plan to upgrade afterwards as well. At the moment, I'm upgrading from an old Athlon X4 620 paired with a gt 430 so this will be a big upgrade for me. Please keep it between the 6700k and 5820k.  :P

PS. I hope I posted this in the right section (pretty sure I did). Thanks guys

Go for a 5820k. Hell I would choose a hexacore over a quad core. It will benefit you more in editing, yes the 6700k has better single core performance. But it's not much only 10-15%. That's barely noticeable.

well the 6700k performs better in the stuff youre going to do, but if it costs more thats not really worth it IMO

just get the cheaper one

both platforms have new CPUs coming in the future so you get an extra generation of upgrades with either one

Is intel actually doing that with this platform(1151)? Thought we would have another haswell on our hands.

Sorry completely forgot broadwell was a thing on 1150. Ignore this.
