16gb or 32gb of Ram?

nkucz

16 is more than enough.

As a fellow CS major a few years ahead of you, there is nothing that school will ask demanding more than 8gbs.

You can get some complex GUIs that push 8gbs but nothing that comes close to 16gbs unless you do heavy editing with premiere/vegas/etc

Yeah that ram should be fine.

CS is fun, I just transferred schools and had a nightmare with my credits transferring correctly. Everything is squared away now so just more schooling to go through.

The first year or so is normally just a crash course in whatever language your uni prefers. After that the classes are very similar using things like Abstract Data Types just implemented in whatever language you prefer.

It's a lot more thinking than it is actual coding or hands on.

16GB is plenty and there's little reason to overclock your ram nor going above 1600.
