Best DAC for under 100?

WoctorDho

on board audio.

if you do not have difficulties driving your headphones with on-board audio it will most likely make zero difference.

But currently the way my computer is setup, the pc is in another room, all of the peripherals are run off of a usb hub (except for the monitor). Would it be best to run a 3.5mm through the wall or get a dac?

Windows 10 is now MSX! http://linustechtips...ndows-10/page-6 ....................

something like this should do.

the oldest sound card i have is a sound blaster (sound blaster live, lovely thing) and i doubt their quality has gone down trough the years.

those things tend to be less than reliable, and while i never listened to one, i cant imagine the quality being all too good. (certainly with dat noisy usb power)

Is this another misuse of the word DAC? Because you can't run headphones straight out of a DAC.

I don't really know how far away the tower and your sitting position is but a USB amp / dac probably could be useful. Something like Fiio E10K should suffice

If you don't have difficult to drive headphones the Behringer UCA202 is a well regarded option and under $30.
