G3240 HTPC

is G3240 sufficient for an HTPC? Mainly for movies playback, movies streaming to other home TVs, browsing and stuff in the living room and it will kinda work as a NAS, people will watch movies over that HTPC

Thus is true, although an i3-4370 does just as well for playback and is a notably stronger cpu option. Which I would presently recommend.

 

That said if you are going to go amd on this route, I would HIGHLY recommend this specific motherboard.

Without a dgpu, the G3240 is not capable of 4k playback.

 

It is great for 1080p. The I3 however works fine for 4k at 60hz.

The specific g3240 igpu is not capable of doing 4k playback.

honestly, for 4K playback i'd suggest picking up an nvidia GT card, they absolutely destroy any resolution content you throw at them.

Of course, cause it costs more. Compare to the GT 620/630

actually, strangely enough, between the GT610 and GT640 theres not *that* much of a difference.

There is a massive difference. A friend spent a year gaming on a GT 640 - it's a okay low-end 720p card.

i have quite the bit of experience on a GT640, it actually goes up to 1440p just fine in quite a bit of games.

 

a friend of mine actually plays league of legends (on absolutely rekt mode settings, 1080p 60) on a GT610

And i3 is about the same cost as a a8-7600k so either option is ok. Just don't buy a pentium

Yea... No. 750ti or gtfo. If buying a dGPU for a HTPC, you should at least do the justice of getting one with HDMI 2.0 (and display-port). Plus price to performance...
