i5-6600k OC @ 4.5ghz but at 1.41 volts?

hi all first time OCer here. i've joined the dark side! i've been reading up on OC and see that ppl can get their 6600k at 4.5-4.6ghz at <1.4volts. i used prime95 and could only get stable tests for a little over an hour for 1.41 volts. am i doing something wrong and is it safe to push if further?

i'm running a asus viii hero mobo with ripjaws v 2400 16ghz RAM

i followed the instructions in this vid:

Use AIDA64, don't use prime 95. I dont know much about skylake voltages but that seems pretty high, what cooling are you using?

That's fine for skylake, but I wouldn't recommend for daily use. Also that is a very badly binned chip as mine, which is below adverge gets 1.3volts @ 4.5ghz. Also don't use prime 95 as the other dude said, it can damage CPUs.

And you can't get to 4.6ghz on that voltage?

1.41V seems a bit high haswell was on 1.35V also use adia 64 its a paid program but i bought it

AIDA64 has a trial, a week I think. Much more realistic loads. If it's any help as a reference I have a 4690k on air (Hyper 212 evo) 4.5GHz @ 1.305v. I can sit at 4.4 on 1.25 though.

I haven't been in the overclocking game for long but I wouldn't want to sit higher than 1.3 for a daily driver on haswell

1) dont use prime95

2) are you manually OCing? because dont use auto overclocking tools

3) set the voltage yourself to less than 1.3v manually and then see what frequencies you can get while stable

1) will run aida64

2) yes i've set it to manual in the bios

3) will give that a try

It's unlikely to damage your CPU, especially since you're setting a manual voltage. I think the issues with it causing damage were when the CPU core voltage is left at auto, where it can end up overvolting the CPU.

I still would rather recommend AIDA64, as Prime95 is basically overkill.

You're not seeing great results, though. There is a luck component to this, and it doesn't appear to be on your side. I would not recommend 1.41 V for daily use, even if it means backing off to 4.4 GHz or less. As said above, most 6600K's are able to manage 4.5 GHz @ 1.3~1.35 V.

ok so you would recommend i keep it at 4.5ghz but drop voltage back down to 1.3-1.35 and test on aida64?

how long would you recommend i run the test? i assume the test is aida64 extreme?
