Hey guys, so I was just wondering since I'm still very new to pc stuffs.  I recently bought a 16gb 1866mhz ram.  I opened speccy and it says 665mhz dual channel.  My mobo can support up to 1333mhz max.  Does that mean im using 2x665mhz?  Isn't it supposed to say 1333mhz because I know it will capped to 1333mhz.

Thanks in advance!

The speed displayed in Speccy is the actual frequency. If you multiple that frequency by two, you get 1330MHz. This is normal and it's due to the way DDR memory works - which stands for Double Data Rate. Every time a cycle is performed, two data cycles occur causing the actual clocks to effectively double.

no

if you enable XMP you memory can run faster than what you motherboard "supports"

this i believe is the stock speed that RAMs run when you install new RAM

to get the actual speed

you need to go into your mobo BIOS and look for XMP profiles

set it restart PC and you get 1866MHz

vanilla :3

Would you guys recommend doing XMP?  Is it all that safe and good?

I wouldn't actually get 1866 since my mobo is maxed at 1333, right? or is that how XMP works? it will max out to 1866 even though my mobo is at 1333?

and yea, vanilla best neko in game! :D

well if the board cant support XMP

then you just run at 1333MHz but with lower timings

yea on second look of the Intel board

it only supports up to 1333MHz

so look at the timings and see if you can lower it

1333MHz at CL7 or 8 sounds nice

it will be the same as 1866 CL 9/10
