I am working on a laptop for a friend and am trying to use a 16 gb flash drive. When it is plugged into the computer, it registers as under 200MB. The flash drive is completely cleared. It was partitioned for mac at one point but was completely erased. I have plugged it into other computers and it has shown up as the full 16 gbs. Any ideas?

Hi.

I have had this issue with many of my flash drives as I have switched from Mac to Windows numerous times.

It has something to do with the formatting.

Go back to your Mac, format the drive to FAT32/exFAT and make sure the partition table is Master Boot Record (MBR).

It is the partition map that allows Windows drives to boot on legacy BIOS systems.

You will have to use an older Mac OS though. Anything older than El Capitan should work as Apple fully changed Disk Utility to the point where I use Disk Management on Windows with its terrible interface.

Hope I could help!  :)
