I would get a pair of Astro A40s or A50s. Get the mix amp with them. Both head sets are high quality and come with good mics. The A50s are more expensive but are wireless.

If you want a "gaming" headset: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H8NS1K8?keywords=audio%20technica%20gaming%20headset&qid=1450244723&ref_=sr_1_2&sr=8-2

I know you probably believe that, but it's not true. Both headsets don't sound that great and their mics aren't even good; wasted money if you ask me.

Just from personal experience the mic are good for in-game/skype and they have good audio quality compared to most "gaming" headsets. Just wondering if you have ever used a pair?

My A40s are far from high quality. Same with the mic. Biggest waste of money in a long time.

that.

or a desk/boom mic if theres room for it. IMO a modmic is an emergency solution for a quality mic, if you dont have room for an acual quality mic.

Well I love my a40s and would buy another Astro product. I guess value is in the eye of the beholder.

Yes. My brother had a pair of A40s with the mixamp and he ended up selling it and just paid me for my HyperX Clouds.

I guess, even though you could buy something better for less. i.e. Sennheiser HD 518s and a ModMic 4.0. Or even HyperX Clouds.

Well, you can spend your money how you see fit. Happy with my purchase so it's money well spent.

With that budget, any mid-range headphone + a quality desk mic is great.  If you're not going to do podcasting or anything in content creation, get something like a Blue Snowball or a Blue Snowflake, then pair it with your favorite mid-range cans.  The cans you chose are going to depend mostly on the music you like listening to, so extracting that out of you would be very helpful in directing you towards the right pair of headphones.
