I was thinking about how I would store an AMD processor for which I have no motherboard just now and I realised I have no clue how to do that safely. For example, I have an Athlon 64 stored in a socket I sawed from the motherboard (cut around it) it was on, but for my FX 8350 for example I have no spare AM3 socket board. I was looking online for "dummy" sockets you can buy but I couldn't find what I was thinking of. Please don't respond with "use the box it came in" because that's pretty damn obvious, and I wouldn't be asking if I could.

If you dont want to use the box it came with,place it upside down,on like,a piece of foam,cloth,wood whatever,and store it ina  dry and safe place.

I recently shipped a AMD cpu and all I did was take some cardboard, fold it in 3, trace out the CPU on the center, cut it out with an x-acto knife, fold one end under, tape or glue in place, drop in the cpu close up and call it a day. Alternatively you can add some hard plastic to the cut out to ensure pins don't get bent but for storage as long as you aren't moving it around a bunch you shouldn't need to.

I might do that with my old A6. It's not worth selling.

Fill a metal bowl full of water and put salt in it and put the CPU in it then a 9V battery....

 

 

 

No just do what Linus does or get some boat modeling foam and stick it in that

I think I'm going to try foam. Come to think of it, a lot of the ICs and H bridges and stuff I have for arduino tinkering comes with their pins stuck in foam, so it should work. Thanks :D
