I've put together a parts list, but either CPU would work for it. I'm trying to determine which CPU will be better for my build. They're close in price anyways, but I know the 6500 is running the newest architecture. I was planning on getting the 6500, but I wanted to see what people thought about it.

It depends on what you want to do with your pc. If this a productivity and editing build get the 6500.

Could you post your full build? So we can see your budget and stuff?

CPU:

Intel Core i5-6500 6M Skylake Quad-Core 3.2 GHz LGA 1151 65W - $205

Case:

Corsair Vengeance Series C70 Military Green - $130

PSU:
SeaSonicX Series X650 Gold - $110

GPU:
MSI Radeon R9 390 8GB - $330 or ASUS GeForce GTX 970 STRIX 4GB - $345

RAM:
HyperX Fury Black Series 16GB 288 pin 2133 - $97

Motherboard:
MSI B150M Mortar LGA 1151 288 pin 2133 - $90

SSD:
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB - $78

Fans:
Cougar Turbine CFT12SB4 120mm - $30

I can spend what I want on it, but for the most part I don't want to go insanely overboard since I really wouldn't need more power than this. I am switching over from a Razer Blade because I am tired of having a laptop that is more than what I can build a better PC for.

Do you need 16gb or Ram? If you have the money might as well go for it, but it's not needed if you just play LOL and Heartstone

I could get away with 8GB no problem, but I figured I may as well hit 16 to be safe. I had 8 in my laptop and rarely pushed past 6GB, but there has been a few times when 8 was an issue for me.

Well, you have to consider DDR4 memory and a Skylake MOBO Is going to chew Into your wallet, and If youre only playing Heartstone and LoL you arent going to benefit from the 6500.

I considered future proofing a bit in case I picked up a higher spec'd game like FFXIV, but if the 4590 is the better bang for the buck, I am indifferent on either. I don't have a budget really, but I also don't want to spend more than I truly need to for a computer that will go out of date before I push it to it's limits.

If you get the 4590 you can upgrade to the 4790K later, but again, theres NO NEED for a 6500 In LoL or Heartstone. Theres barely any difference In newer AAA titles. But If youve got money to burn sure, but Its not worth It :P

If he is juts gaming. He should save some money and get the 4590 and use that money to upgrade his system in other areas

He said it's close in price, which would probably be less than $50, not gonna make a whole lot of difference in GPU selection.

Since I really only play League, I'm even considering moving to the 960 STRIX because I don't think the 970 is even needed. And that saves me $140.
