NH-U12S / NH-U14S

Kyzer

I'm stuck between NH-U12S and 4 case fans (5 total, nf-f12), or NH-U14S and 3 case fans (4 total, 3x nf-f12/ 1x nf-a15).

The NH-U14S would cool the CPU better, but going with the NH-U12S and 4 extra NF-F12's would give better ventilation wouldn't it?

Noise isn't a problem because at idle they'd all be running at 300RPM

But first, let's talk about parallel universes.

Spoiler

Intel i7-4790k undervolt, NVidia EVGA GTX 980Ti SC Reference, NVidia EVGA GTX 480 SC Reference, ASUS Z97-A/USB3.1, SK Hynix SL308 240GB, WD Green 2TB, Hynix 1333 8GB (4x2), XFX Core Pro 850w, NH-U12S, 4x NF-F12's, Sennheiser HD 558's, Blue Yeti, Corsair K70 (red), Logitech MX Master, XBox One Controller, ASUS VG248QE 144Hz, HP 2010i

I would take the u14s, just for the sake of a better cpu cooler, simple as that ;)

Is this for the pc listed in your signature?

If so do you really need an expensive Noctua cooler?

How much of an upgrade are you really getting going from the 6300 to the 8320?  Wouldn't it be better to save for a bigger upgrade?  I see you do have a 970 chipset mobo, are you planning to overclock?  I think you can get a decent overclock with a cheaper cooler, but hey, many other variables influence rational.

Why do you have a Cooler Master Seidon 120v watercooler, just use that?

It died back in September.

I'd go for U14S. Or if you want to save money, go for U12S and leave one case fan off. You are fine just by 2 intakes and 1 exhaust. Are you aiming for silence or performance more?
