Painting an EVGA GTX 980

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

Hey guys, would like some info on if painting my future gtx 980 will affect the RMA and thermal capability of the coolers and fans and so on.

Thanks, I also want to paint it white. Not sure what paint is perfect for the job but plasti-dip has been recommended.

It won't affect thermals as long as your are not painting the fans or heatsink directly, I have a guide that goes over it here under GPU Painting:

Plasti-dip is a good option for the shroud since it's a removable rubber coating.

Yeah, use plast-dip because it is removable so you can RMA the card if necessary.

As far as fans go, you would take of the shroud so it's completely separate from the PCB and fans then you paint it. After the coats are done, just put the card back together(usually just a few screws)

Don't be fooled by the bottom line of my sig, that is just for my travels.

So you're telling me that Gaben is no God? Enough of your foolishness.

My hardware you ask? I'm using a Dell Inspiron 3217 Notebook... With an LG 25UM57.

Just use plastidip. If you need to RMA it, peel it off, then send it in.

you need to remove the plastic shroud from the card

this means taking the whole heatsink off, removing the fans, and then prepping the plastic shroud for painting
