So I've been putting some thought into where I want to go from here, now that I've built my first computer. It will be a while before I have the money to do a major upgrade, but I've been considering going for dual xeons when I do. I've been specifically looking into haswell xeons, as I dont want to go the way linus did and get something ancient. Now heres my concern: would I have any upgrade path if I went this route? And if I won't would I at least be future-proofed enough that I won't have to upgrade for a while? I'd love to hear the pros and cons relating to this.

Dual CPUs are pretty much only useful in servers. For games, they do next to nothing. Get a GPU instead.

Build: i5-4460 | GT 720 | Logitech G710+ Keyboard | Corsair M65 Mouse | Dell e2314h Monitor | Windows 10

Generic Dell: Mobo, 8gb RAM, 430w PSU, 1TB Storage, XPS 8700 Case

I don't do a ton of gaming. I have a video card that serves my needs fine already. I do a lot of cpu intensive tasks, believe it or not. The xeons would likely still be overkill, but thats kinda the point.

^^

And there are no dual socket Haswell motherboards

Oh shit, your right! Thanks for the heads up.
