GTX 970 or R9 390X

I would like your guys opinion on which card I should get to replace my damaged GTX 970. Here are the two options

EVGA GTX 970 FTW :

The 390X is about $65 usd more expensive than the 970 which one would you guys think I should get.

please can you only discuss these two options as they are the ones I'm looking at buying.

390X rekts the 970

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

390X is by far way more better. 390 if you value your money more and want something less powerful but still better than a 970.

390 is better for the price but...

390X... WANT.

Although those reference 290Xs on eBay are looking reeeeeally nice... Might have to grab one of them and water cool it.

Obviously the 390x will beat the 970 because of the price difference so if that's the question go for the 390x. If you're worried about price the 970 is still a great option (I use it in two of my rigs). There's also the obvious NVIDIA vs AMD argument with both having their advantages and disadvantages. It's really down to if you want to spend the little bit extra for the little bit extra performance.

If you want decent VR you will need a 980/980ti/titan or wait for the Pascal HBM2 GTX1080ti half way through 2016 which is supposed to be a beast (this is what I am waiting for).

The 390x rivals the 980 so and crushes the 970. If you want to save some money get a 390 as it is, in test that I have seen, better than the 970 but in the same price range.

I did say I only wanted to talk about the 390x and 970 the GTX 980 is out of my price range
