Displayport with monitors!

danielhowk

DP is the best, yeah. That cable is fine. There is no such thing as a DP 1.2 cable though, so don't spend extra on one that claims to be, if you can get another DP cable cheaper somewhere else.

yes Displayport is the best

cable length is important as the longer the cable

the signal will degrade

measure the distance between the monitor and PC before you choose the length

i would go with the 2 meter long cable...you'd save 10$...unless you really need a 3m cable like if the pc is at the other end of the room or something?

It is only a concern (and this applies to all cables, analogue and digital), when you reach the maximum cable length specified by the specification of the cable you use.

DisplayPort specification states:

-> 4K 60Hz max cable length: 2m

-> 1080p 60Hz max cable length: 15m

HDMI 2.0 can go longer.

-> 10m for 1080p.

No idea for 4K max length.

Anything longer you want to use non-passive cables, out of specs cabling (does other things to make it all work, like shielding. But it is at your own risk.), or pass it through a box that will convert a signal to Ethernet or fiber optics for longer cable length support. Yes they are such solution, of course, pretty expensive.

No idea for 4K max length, but should be more than DisplayPort.

Of course, DisplayPort 1.3, when that comes out officially, could change things, much like HDMI 2.1

7m is longer than 15m?
