Hi guys im running an Amd phenom ii x4 925 (yes i know quite old),gtx 660,8gb ram windows 64bit...

My games seem to be runniing fine not max but mostly high..

would yous say my cpu is holding my gpu back on frames or is the gtx 660 mid range enough to not be held back by the phenom.

Also would yous recommend me upgrading to a newer fx chip like 6300,8150,8350? (Im not going intel yet)

Please no fanboyism and genuine answers

 Thanks :)

Depends on the game. It's be less of a problem if you overclock your cpu a bit.

An upgrade to a 6300, 8320, 8350 would be reasonable.

If it is bottlenecking, it's probably not too bad. Do you get better FPS if you overclock?

This would not be a bad idea at all.

What is your current mobo?

Also it's a GeForce + quad core, if it is bottlenecking it's not as bad as you think - yes FPS in games depend on CPU as well but as long as 4 cores are in use (modern games) it shouldnt be unplayable. Better yet, when you play a game with bad cpu+good gpu, you can still turn on many features (GPU-wise) for graphics like antialiasing without much FPS loss.

Ok guys thanks,my mobo is probably as low end as mobos get lol...and i will not be overclocking my phenom because i have in the past and it overheated like crazy. I will most likely upgrade to an fx chip...probably the 6300 or 8120. Also is there big difference between 8120,8320,8350 and 6300...with next gen consoles coming out and im hoping multi core optimizations are made for games i think an 8 core proccessor would be the best option, even though i heard console optimizations might not transfer to pc hardware as some might think

A 6300 has 6 cores. The 8320 has 8 cores. The 8350 is a higher binned 8320 meaning it usually overclocks higher.

Don't get the 8120..

some games LOVE CPU

some dont give a damn

an example would be BF3 it loves GPU

u could run the same gpu with a q6600 or a 4770k at 1080p and the fps would be the same
