My friend has an Athlon X2 3600+ from 2007 - he runs SC2 LotV fine above 40fps with no drops

Weird then, I knew my old Athlon (Forget model think it was X4 something) couldn't run SupCom above 30 FPS (Then again it had a shit GPU with it), and a friend of mine with an A6 lags super hard in big battles.

What GPU does your friend have?

(Not trying to hijack thread)

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

If you go to an i5 4690  (K is only 15$ more so I got you that)

and a cheap H97 MoBo it'll set you back about 300$ and you'll get 10+ more FPS in most games.

More if your games are CPU bound (Arma, RTS/ MMO's, e.t.c.).

Arma isnt CPU bound enough to make a FX 6300 slow you down...

a FX 6300 will match a i3 4160 in Arma 2/3.... buying a i5 is a waste of money.

300$ for 10-15 FPS...

that gives you about 20-30 USD per FPS

OP should grab a kit of 2400MHz RAM... it will cost him 50 bucks and give him 5-10 FPS on average.

CPU bottleneck? -> faster RAM gives better performance. especially minimum FPS goes up notably.

The only RTS i'm basing this off of is SupCom 2 since that's the only one I play :P

A friend of mine lags super hard in it in big battles with an A10 at low graphics, the iGPU should be more than enough to run it but CPU wise it's not strong enough.

eh, probably a AMD Driver issue. Also, unless you manually configure the iGPU of a A10, it will suck.

at 1080p, almost regardless of the game, you will get less then 60 FPS, purely because of the amount of pixels you gotta push. I know, cuz i own a 7870k myself.

A. You're funny. Go look at any arma bench mark. It literally uses 1 CPU core.

B. He runs most games at good FPS low settings. Shouldn't be lagging that hard.

it it worth waiting till zen or upgrade gpu

get a R9 290 (FX 6300 cannot get any faster GPU without bottlenecking)

http://anandtech.com/bench/product/1068?vs=1038

as you can see, the R9 290 wrecks the 760 you got....

second upgrade would be to upgrade to ZEN/Skylake (dont get skylake before ZEN is out.... ZEN should cause a price drop of Skylake SKUs)

i stand corrected. 4130...

B: Could be a driver issue. Test with any other AMD GPU before blaming the CPU.
