23" IMO is the sweet spot for 1080p, but 24" yea. 27 you need to look at 1440p if you don't wan't it to look terrible up close

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Wow 15 inches? I guess you're using a laptop so like everyone else said for 27 inches go with 1440p but depending on your laptop you might not even be able to power 27 inch 1440p

1440p @ 27" here.

I jizz a little every time I see my monitor. Just saying.

Same.

Unrelated, reminds me I need to clean my keyboard.

(No seriously, it's pretty dusty)

no at all. To get an idea of the size of objects on one in comparison to the screen you currently own, spit the numbers into a calculator like this

The bigger the better.

Bigger is most certainly not always better, it all depends on what the monitor is been used for. If it is for image/video/3d work, then a bigger monitor is very beneficial, especially the newer curved designs. But for gaming you want something that is comfortable to use, and doesn't require you to constantly look around to find your mark. The sweet spot for gaming is usually between 24" and 27". Even if you are dealing with resolutions greater than 1080p, you still want to be somewhere within that screen size range.

There is no drawbacks to having a bigger monitor. (Not any on top of my head)

Constantly look around to find things is just a funny way of saying you cannot tell left or right, which paragraph from which, because in the end, the text sizing is the same, so the ratio is also the same.

The biggest monitor i believe is a 32-34 inch one and that is still not enough for people.

That is why people use multiple displays.

And dont tell me that pc monitors go above 40 inches, those are called TVs for a reason.

People use multiple monitors for more pixels....lol

As long as they can see it well at 100% scaling the extra size does them no good at all. Above a certain point, it looks like trash.

I want a 40 inch 4k monitor. I wan't 3 of them actually, but I can't see myself blowing that kind of money.

But anyway that's equivalent to 4 1080p monitors at 20 inches each. The only reason I, and many others would go that big.

Exactly what i meant, could have phrased it better tho.

Like how you don't classify a TV as a Monitor.

Same here, since i program and multitask like mad, i constantly found myself lacking screen space.

That's just not true, sorry. It doesn't sound like you've actually used big monitors extensively.

Television sets are displays that can receive television broadcasts. They can be 20" or 50" or anything else. Monitors don't, and they can also be 20" or 50" or anything else. Size is totally irrelevant to the classification.

I would suggest a 24" 1080p display. The pixel density is best at that screen size. You are not really doing yourself a favor with a bigger display unless you sit pretty far away from it. But at a normal desk a 24" is very good and let's you be able to see everything on the screen and have good pixels/inch
