It never is a huge leap in performance unless you are going from say an HD 7850 to an HD 9950 or you wait for 2 generations or more to upgrade.

Don't need to be an expert to quantify how new gpu release go. It's always overhyped by people like you. The best thing to do is to buy the best deal at the time you have money to spend on a new piece of hardware as you can always wait for the next best thing.

This this this, I really hate "waiters", get your money in the rig, buy a 7970 for $300 and smile like a kid on christmas.

Pretty much. I could have waited and spent more, saved more, and waited more but to be honest the HD 7850 I bought has worked really well especially being that is only cost me $150 shipped and came with 3 free top notch games. I guess according to some I should have waited 6 months for the new GPUs to come out so I could get the same game bundle and less performance for the same money I spent on the HD 7850.

You probably are going to want something with 3GB of GDDR5 to be safe. But I agree with everone telling you to wait for the new AMD GPUs they will cause major sales on the 7k series and they might have some awesome price to performance ratios if the rumors that are floating around are somewhat true.

The 7950 dropped in price to as low as it can go.

That is what you think. You may be surprised what some retailers will do to get rid of stock.

It's already @ $214 for a HIS 7950 on Newegg. If they go down any more then they will have to reduce the HD 7870, 7850 etc prices and they can't afford to take a loss on what they had to already had to pay to AMD. The only card that ever went down dramatically in price at EOL was the GTX 480 and that's just because nobody wanted that hot and loud turd so EVGA had no choice but to clear them out at a to good to be true price and take a lose on profit margins.

They already made their money, They are going to be wanting to lose money once they are running out of room and the reason is because they still have old GPUs that no one wants now. Though it is true it may not drop that much more but I wouldn't be surprised.

It does not work like that. No company wants and or can afford to take a financial hit. They have to sell the GPUs for more than they paid in order to make money it's that simple. nvidia and AMD don't give away their GPUs to shops like Newegg and NCIX etc.

Newegg and NCIX are big enough to take hits like that, they don't have as many GPUs as you think and people aren't buying them as rampidly as you may think. But that is just my perspective. You don't have to agree, I don't expect you to.

Look, the fact of the matter is that it the 9xxx series will undoutedbly be better than a 7000 series card but it isn't going to be LIGHTYEARS ahead, like much of you are suggesting.

Prices will drop but probably marginally, don't expect a $100 drop in one night, I myself will eat a hat of some sorts if even one of you can find such a drop.

All in all if your going on the AMD side of the fence; wait for 9xxx

If your on Nvidia's side; get a 770

(oh and also I've heard rumors that the Never Settle Bundles are soon to be a thing of the past, so there is a possibility that BF4 will be bundled by itself or not even at all)

If it were up to me and if I was desperate to get a card, I'd just get a card right now, if gaming is a long-term hobby for you then in 2-3 years time you'll get another card that will be new and shiny.

I'm the one who overclocks.

Monetary Economics disagrees with you. NCIX and Newegg are in bisness to make money not take a financial loss every time a new GPU releases.

Mr.Expert totally an expert a new architecture change is always a big jump like for example fermi to kepler on the nvidia side was a big jump in performance so was the last AMD launch 6000 to 7000...

580 to 680 is not really a big jump in overall performance at all. The only thing big about the 680 to 780 was the price jump. I rather have 10fps less and save $150 bucks.

Looking to upgrade my gpu, currently HD6850, for Battlefield 4 and need a card that can run it at ultra 1080p with no issues.

Budget around £200-£300

Lower the price the better!

Any suggestions?

I normally don't say to wait for hardware witch hasn't been announced yet but I would wait for 9xxx because its going to be BF4 ready and will be ample to play at high frame rate
