I'm gonna get my sister a streaming device for her new TV (Which my parent's are getting her) for Christmas.

What do you guys recommend?

I've personally been looking at the Fire TV, Fire TV stick, Roku 4, Roku stick, Chromecast, and the Apple TV. Suggestions?

(Open to any other ideas)

The AppleTV sounds like the better choice...against the others. I wouldn't buy it personally. Chrome Cast seems like the way to go.

She's an Apple Person.

She likes netflix, youtube, hulu, shtuff like that.

if she's an apple person, get her an apple tv.

apple stuff is amazingly well integrated into each other.

EDIT: THAT THING COSTS HOW MUCH? O.o (€179 for an arm based dongle for your tv...)

Ok, thank you.

Also, is the 4th generation one really better than the 3rd generation one?

well, thats what they make you believe.

from what i see you're paying twice as much for this:

- wireless AC

- dual core arm chip instead of single core

- 7.1 audio instead of 5.1 (because of that one person in the universe with a 7.1 setup)

- a bit taller

- more fancy remote with a rechargable battery

- apps

- 3rd party remotes

So is it worth it do you think?

I would say apple TV or chromecast, but if you get a firestick, install kodi, then genesis and voilà.

My sister wouldn't want that lol.

Is the 4th generation apple TV really worth it over the 3rd.

well, what i'm saying is that in my eyes they're both an overpriced piece of locked garbage.

does your hose have wireless ac, does your sister need apps on her tv?

thats the dealio with the 4th gen i think.

i'll ask it otherwise.

is she technically capable enough to use apps on her tv?

is she gonna go balls crazy because the generation number isnt the highest available and discard the device for being outdated?

Ill suggest this again. Roku. 3rd gen is good enough for everyone, 4 gen supports more future tech. I'd get the 3rd gen. You can get it for 50 or more dollars cheaper then the apple tv 4th gen(which is what I would get with the added siri and updated hardware if I was going for apple tv). It has pretty good app support. Unless your sister uses all apple services I would get Roku.

Apps like netflix, youtube, hulu and others use their own accounts. So, unless she needs apple software, go roku I say.

Roku also supports Micro SD card.
