Difference between 4K and Ultra HD?

AstroBenny

Apparently the use of 4K is incorrect in the consumer market due to displays actually being "Ultra HD" instead of 4K..

What's the difference exactly?

I don't like 2D games...I just couldn't get into them.. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Consumer 4K, known as Ultra HD or UHD, is 3840x2160.

DCI 4K (true 4K) is 4096x2160.

Exactly what he said! 4K = 4096x2304 or 4096x2160. But UHD = 3840x2160

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

It is correct in the sense that 4K on the consumer side is the "movie aspect ratio" (i put in quotes because the aspect ratio for movies is different for many movies. It all depends on the art style/direction of the director) of 16:9.

4K is a category which encompasses many resolutions, including 3840x2160, 4096x2160, 4096x2304, 4096x2560, 3840x2400, etc.

4K UHD refers specifically to 3840x2160.

Please don't listen to people saying "3840x2160 isn't really 4K, it's UHD!!" and "4096x2160 is true 4K!", it's complete nonsense.

4K is not a specific resolution, UHD is, but it's also a 4K resolution so it's not at all incorrect to call it 4K.
