Need help picking which 1440p build to use

Mullen_S

So I have come up with 6 different parts lists, all with slightly varying parts, and all of them cost about £950. Also, if there is something better you would add or anyway to make it cheaper that would be helpful too. So here they are incase you want the full parts list:

-Haswell i5 980ti https://uk.pcpartpic...ed/#view=dVtD4D

-Skylake i5 980 https://uk.pcpartpic...ed/#view=YbtG3C

-Haswell i5 980 https://uk.pcpartpic...ed/#view=9RsG3C

-Haswell i5 980+Cooler and Mouse https://uk.pcpartpic...ed/#view=JTwscf

-Haswell i5 980+Cooler and SSD  https://uk.pcpartpic...ed/#view=GYJrxr

-Haswell i5 980+SSD and Mouse https://uk.pcpartpic...ed/#view=GH96Mp

Thanks :D

Definitely the first one.  4690k vs 6600k isn't a big difference but 980Ti vs 980 is.

Was happily running 4790k with 980 Ti then decided to upgrade to Skylake with ASUS Z170 Deluxe motherboard and been plagued with problems, I've heard the BIOS are just as terrible on Gigabyte mobos as well.

Boot time can increase all the way to 70-75 seconds. Early time, high speed memory was having issue .. although ASUS just told me few days ago after a month of communication with them that my board is faulty but if you look at ASUS VIP Forums for the product buyers you'll see many others having same issue. Slow boot times due to BIOS, I've heard it's the same with Gigabyte BIOS as well but can't confirm that yet.

It probably doesn't help you but figured you should know it beforehand. I'm sure it'll be fixed in due time but a high end mobo like Z170 Deluxe from ASUS having issues after months of it's release date? It's ridiculous.

As for the GPU, I have Gigabyte G1 Gaming 980 Ti and I game at 4K, I wouldn't suggest 980 at all for 1440p and for future proofing 980 Ti is the way to go. I'd rather save a bit more and go with 980 Ti with Skylake (if you can wait for those issues to disappear) or maybe do thorough research on your motherboard not just reviews on YouTube but by going on forums of that manufacturer and making sure others aren't having many issues with it.

Hope it helps.
