Overclockable 1150 MB MATX

I currently am on the Red side all the way. Older Phenom X4 CPU with dual 290x cards. I was going to watercool the gpus and upgrade the CPU, but my 290x's are not wanting to overclock and work for me.

I was getting helped about a new CPU and my GPUs not cooperating but got pulled over to the Blue side of PCs. I have decided to get either an i5 4690k or i7 4790k or something close to it without burning my wallet.

I will probably say F*** it and get a titan x to keep me good for years to come.

All will be housed in a Thermaltake Level 10 GT, and I will eventually (probably the following year) get a Thermaltake core V21 so I can have a small footprint.

 

I am having a huge issue, however, on what motherboard to get. Please help. I am looking for Micro ATX, 4 mem slots, more than one PCI-e/PCI slots for expanding certain features if need be, front usb 3.0 header, and over-clockability. All this is a must.

 

All comments, suggestions, disagreements are welcome. Thank you in advance.

 

Forgot to mention... so far the most demanding game is GTA V.

I'd go Skylake since you wanted to "future-proof" yourself for a few years.

 

Also, a 980 Ti can beat a Titan X in most games due to a higher effective core and memory clock.

Titan x is waste of money xD 980 Ti beats it in most things, only reason to get Titan X is if you need more rendering Space that exceeds the 6 Gigs of the 980 TI

An i7-6700K will do better than a 6600K due to hyperthreading and a higher effective clock speed, but if you're budgeting for a gaming-only build, a 6600K will suffice. 

 

Make sure to get a Z170 based MOBO for overclocking.

Skylake and 980 Ti or a X99 set up for comparable price for whatever fits your budget. With X99 you have an upgrade path to an 8 core in the case you choose to buy one used a couple years from now to prolong the life of your system.

Ok so far the general consensus is to get skylake, noted and agreed since it's so new. I will be doing gaming mostly, unless my T510 craps out (which is highly unlikely).

I am seeing so far the 980ti is the way to go, I figured the TX for the extra vram for extra mileage, but we will see the closer it gets to summer.

What board should I get? The same must haves still apply. I'd like to be able to SLI in the future at some point. Thanks again!

The i7 won by far on the votes 7-2, the 980ti won as well 7 votes with the 390x 3 votes second and the TX in third 2 votes as of right now.

only board available in the z170 is the: Asus Z170M-E D3 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard

X99 isn't available for skylake. I don't have to make it "future proof" just enough to get me by until say maybe three to five years. By then I'll be sli with two gpus, watercooling, and doing sh** tons of overclocking.

X99 is 2011v3, but you could go that route over skylake and get something that fits your budget and have an 8 core and a 10 core cpu you could swap out to in the future to prolong the life of your system if you could find one used for cheap in a couple years. That or Skylake, Skylakes socket will be reused for Kaby Lake cpus when they come out.

this is what I have so far. Take this wanted rig, subtract from my current rig-> min: $700, and I get something great. I don't have a gaming monitor yet, and I am keeping my keyboard and mouse until I find a mouse I prefer for gaming and the keyboard I am keeping. So this is pretty good I am guessing. Let me know what yall think.
