Monitors: 4k 24" Dell monitor, 1080p 24" Asus monitor

Laptop:

-Overkill Dell XPS

Fully maxed out early 2017 Dell XPS 15, GTX 1050 4GB, 7700HQ, 1TB nvme SSD, 32GB RAM, 4k display. 97Whr battery :x
Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

I understand your like-level for glossy (I love my S2340M), but does it have to be glossy?

Why would you ever want glossy?

It just looked better, IMO. Not sure about the OP but to me it just... Looks better.

To me it looks like glare..

When you don't have the sun behind them it doesn't matter. Even then, I don't notice it and the sun is in my window in the mornings.

Never had that issue.

Oh, and there's a lamp kinda next to it and an overhead light in the center of my room, soooo

in reality i am just looking for the best looking screen under $300 (perferably lower), i hear alot of good things about ips and glossy screens when it comes to color reproduction.

was going to go with the Acer H236HLbid (x2 for dual screen)

but my gpu only has 1 hdmi, and i rather not use dvi. thus displayport seemed to be the next best option (unfortunately this monitor does not have displayport)

What resolution are we talking about here?

atleast 1080p (kind of against ultrawide screens)

Maybe look in to Acer monitors. Acer loves to put gloss on their monitors. Unless you mean gloss on the screen.

I forgot the model number of the one I'm thinking, but it has a matte screen, is something like $250, and is made by Dell. Like U2414H or something U2something. Sorry for my lack of a link, but the schools firewall is being derpy as shit right now.

think i know the one you were talking about, been looking at the older version of it. unfortunately does not have a glossy panel, not really mandatory cause i have no idea how well it would look in my room. really wish there was like a way to test out how well a glossy panel would look without actually having to buy a monitor before hand.

I might be able to answer that "will it work or naw" question.

Do you have a light source behind the monitor (such as a window or another display of some kind)? Ceiling lights shouldn't dick it up too much, at least in my experience with my monitor.

generally keep my curtains closed, only lights in my room is a table lamp across my room and my tv (no ceiling lights), neither of which would be within view of the monitor screen itself as it would be facing the opposite direction. least in my current situation.
