So I got a two and a half old Sony Vaio laptop. And the 4 gb memory is kinda not enough. So i bought theese 2x8 gb 1600 mhz corsair memory. The problem is that windows won't boot with them in. The bios says there is 8064 mb of memory, but windows will still not boot? What can i do to  make that posible?

Frecuency is too high, Too much for system to handle, OS only supports so much ( but would techncally ignore the extra ram. What was the previous kit's frecuency?

Basically this , try to lower it to 1333 but i doubt there will be such option in the bios..

One of three problems that i have encounter on my own laptop. As some people previously have said the frequency could be to high. The memory cap of you motherboard could be 8GB and not higher, so you would only be able to put another 4gb stick of RAM in. The motherboard's BIOS may need updating.

Bit offtopic, but I hope you have 64bit windows or other 64bit os for that memory. Laptops aren't ram locked in sense of manufacturer or stick capacity. Better try those thing mentioned above.

1600MHz is nothing these days, we have up to 2800 and 3000MHz sticks?

@OP - I would run Memtest86 and see if there are any problems, might be a waste of time but you never know

There is no frequency option in the bios. I think i would buy some new 8 gb sticks at 1333mhz and see if that works.

Btw, I got windows 7 64 bit.

Try to reinstall them

1. re-install the stock 4-gigs

2. boot into windows

3. backup windows

4. install corsair 8-gigs

5. install fresh windows

6. be amazed how it works

7. restore your programs

12. -profit!

You have to check the manufactures specs and have the correct latency and the recommended max amount of ram, usually i would say 8 gig would be maxed out, so to run a duel channel kit you would need 2x 4gig memory modules.

The bios should default the running speeds but most important is the valtage and timmings of the ram.

Don't just stick anything in, research first and get what is required, it should say on the old ram the timmings and voltage, just get 2x 4 gig kits of the same and you will be for sure maxed out.

Only a very new high spec gaming laptop will have a motherboard to support lots of ram and fast ram.

send the other ram back and exchange it for the correct spec...

got to love Asus components

I was thinking along the same lines, but since the notebook posts I'm pretty sure that the RAM passes QVL. But that was my initial thought as well.

Maybe that ram req's too much voltage... You could check that as well, had the same issue with my ddr2 hyperx which required 2.2V, next to my Corsair dominator ddr2 which required 2.1V for the same freq. If you can't adjust mem. freq, voltage, and timings, then you've just wasted your money on some hi-performance notebook ram.
