URGENT: Quick Disconnect or Valve?

UmerF

Hello,

As the title suggestions, I'm kinda stuck in choosing between Quick Disconnect fittings or Valve for draining, I'm getting the following items for my custom loop (locally).

CPU Block: https://shop.ekwb.com/ek-supremacy-evo-nickel-original-csq

Pump: https://shop.ekwb.com/ek-xtop-ddc-3-2-pwm-acetal-original-csq-incl-pump

Reservoir Body: http://koolance.com/reservoir-body-60-x-240mm-471ml

Reservoir Base: http://koolance.com/reservoir-nozzle-base-60mm-od

Radiator: http://koolance.com/hx-360xc-radiator-3-fan-120mm-30-fpi-copper

Soft Tubing: http://koolance.com/tubing-clear-uv-reactive-pvc-10mm-x-16mm-3-8in-x-5-8in

Fittings: https://shop.ekwb.com/ek-acf-fitting-10-13mm-nickel

Now, as you can see it contains everything that I need to run a proper custom water loop excluding any color and pastel. I'll be using distilled water  for now (using mineral/tap water) and making it distilled myself if I can't find it from local market but I plan to add other colors in coming weeks once I know which color exactly I want whether it be White or Red since my Z170 Deluxe isn't playing nice and I might replace it with upcoming Maximus VIII Formula or something else.

Now .. I love the idea of Quick Disconnect fittings that are offered by numerous companies such as Swiftech, Koolance etc but I also know they slow down water flow. So I won't be using only those fittings everywhere as I originally thought I would thus making my choice limited to either using only one Quick Disconnect set of fittings in one of the pipes coming from radiator (or any other place) mainly just for draining purposes or .. use a simple valve for draining?

I need this sorted urgently if I need my items from Amazon by 18-20 December otherwise it'll be next year in January or so thus I want my query resolved as soon as possible such as by tonight in a matter of hours (2:49PM here right now as of writing this.)

Also this is my first custom water loop, I'm using Corsair H100i at the moment with Corsair & Noctua Industrial Fans for Push and Pull config. I realize that custom water loop will require maintenance from time to time and while I have a bit of knowledge about it, I'm kinda rushing into it in a matter of hours/days without doing extensive research like I usually do. If you guys have any input on that as well, I'm all ears and open to suggestions.

Oh and I'll be putting everything together in a Corsair 900D so there's plenty of space for everything and also at this moment will just be cooling my processor and will plan to add GPU and Mobo in the loop down the road.

Items I'm most likely ordering by the end of the day from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Focused-NF-F12-iPPC-3000-PWM/dp/B00KFCRATC/ (I only have two Noctua fans at the moment, need third one for 360 rad.)

http://www.amazon.com/NZXT-CB-LED20-WT-2-Metres-Sensitivity-Sleeved/dp/B0046Y5Z92/ (For adding some ambient lighting in there, any other options are welcome as well.)

http://www.amazon.com/XSPC-ATX-Bridge-Tool-Black/dp/B00NKQ4F98 (For draining purposes, of course.)

http://www.amazon.com/Phobya-2-way-Valve-Black-Nickel/dp/B009KBHSH8/ (Valve, if I decide to go valve instead of quick disconnect fittings.)

http://www.amazon.com/XSPC-Male-Fitting-Black-Chrome/dp/B004TD7WEQ/ (To go with the valve so it can be installed in the reservoir base.)

http://www.amazon.com/XSPC-Plug-Black-Chrome-4-pack/dp/B00NODF5Q4/ (Thinking of getting these for the valve, do I really need it?)

Quick input on this will be highly appreciated!

P.S. Please link me the Quick Disconnect fittings from Amazon that you see are fit. I only see Koolance once there on Amazon.com (USA)

So far I'm loving the idea of Swiftech ones, they're small but they are also kinda tight .. not sure if that's what you want but check some YouTube videos on it: http://www.swiftech.com/Quickdisconnect.aspx also this, http://www.swiftech.com/lok-seal.aspx

Alternatively, Koolance got some nice ones but they're much bigger than Swiftech ones. Take a look here: http://koolance.com/quick-disconnect-shutoff-couplings?path=60

For me, I might be only limited to Koolance once as they are the only ones listed on Amazon for now along with some Bitspower one as well I think? I would only pick top brands like Bitspower, Koolance, Swiftech and EKWB but not sure if EK is making any quick disconnect fittings or not.

P.S. Great desk build you got going there, I'll chime in there later on as it's one of the DIY project on my list when I get some free time for fun.

I feel your pain, all the items I'm getting that I listed on the first list above are available locally brand new from this private seller and only one piece of each sadly and everything listed on Amazon I will be importing it to my home country, Pakistan.

Yes, you'll need two. Male and Female variants of both, try not to use too many of those as they can slow down the flow of water in your loop but in your desk build they'll come in very very handy I'm sure. I'm also looking into these for draining purposes only since I have 900D and I can't tilt it around to get water out lol.

Either these or Valve, use the pump to push the water out without messing around with the whole case. Those fittings sure do look sexy though!

edit : OMG they are 40$

im just going to go for a valve since it will be cheaper haha

To answer your question a quick disconnect seems so much easier to me

You think so as well? I was thinking something like valve would go nice with arcylic tubing as well if I decide to do those in future? Quick Disconnects won't play nice with hard pipes as it would make no sense using those.

I only have these two options it seems from Amazon.com:

Male: http://www.amazon.com/Koolance-QD3-MSG4-Disconnect-No-Spill-Coupling/dp/B00J9X81M8/

Female: http://www.amazon.com/Koolance-QD3-FSG4-Disconnect-No-Spill-Coupling/dp/B00J9X8EES/

And they're huuuuuuuuge when put together, YouTube videos shows it all lol oh and also these I just saw:

Male: http://www.amazon.com/Bitspower-Disconnect-Compression-Fitting-Rotary/dp/B017GLZPZA/

Female: http://www.amazon.com/Bitspower-Disconnect-Female-Compression-Fitting/dp/B017GLZS3Y

But not sure if they're compatible with each other, they should be but the numbers of inches don't match on each link :/

Haha, yes. That they are .. but if you need a cleaner option for something like this: http://i.imgur.com/zXsxSOE.jpg where you're doing a custom desk or something it might come in really handy ... like disconnect the pipes behind the desk that are sending in all the water inside to drain it and what not, you know?

Valve should do the same thing anyway, you just need to use valve along with a bit of pipe and put it in any bucket/bottle and let it drain.

I mean i dont want to waste my money right? Neither do you im guessing.

I wouldnt risk it.

For my rig im planning to have one of these that will split to the loop coming and and coming out and another hole for the draining system.

https://shop.ekwb.com/ek-af-x-splitter-4f-g1-4-nickel

ball valve on the other end to stop the liquid going towards the draining system and just let it out whenever i need to drain it.

https://shop.ekwb.com/ek-af-ball-valve-10mm-g1-4-black

thats my plan hopefully it will work

Im just using EK stuff because of shipping purposes really and its a bit easier. And it would look uniform all the parts from one manufacturer. My OCD would be happy lol. I like the bitspower fittings but they are not readily available and shipped to New Zealand but EK does so its nice and easy.

Exactly! So much to think and all .. I can spend months planning the loop and what not but sadly I cannot send the items back in favor of getting others once they're in Pakistan. Thus, I'm going with everything high-end/semi high-end equipment and as for fittings, I will be looking more into those when I move into arcylic tube which is much more sexy but I'll probably do that only when running a loop through GPU and Mobo as well, for now it'll only be the processor.

For you though, since it's a custom desk build you can do either valve or quick disconnect so not really much of an issue.

Exactly the same way, lol. By the way, you will need something like this to go with that valve: http://www.amazon.com/XSPC-Male-Fitting-Black-Chrome/dp/B004TD7WEQ/ so you can screw it on one side and then screw the valve to the reservoir base otherwise no way to screw it in the base.

Sounds like a plan to me, plus I feel if you cut and measure soft tubing just right enough they can end up looking like hard tubing as well. Arcylic tubing is very nice when you're planning to do bending and curves and what not but if pipes are going from one place to another soft tubing should suffice plus changing parts should be much easier with soft tubing as well.

.. but then again since you're doing a totally custom desk build you can use anything you desire and make the desk work with it, all in your hands brother.

Now what's left is from Amazon. Still have some time to decide between Valve and Quick Disconnect fittings if anyone can chime in, please.

When I was building my loop (hardline) I opted for a Bitspower valve for the drain port. I was never happy with buying it anyway as it doesn't (to me at least) feel particularly high quality. This was confirmed when I started leak testing my loop and the valve was not capable of holding water. I stripped the system down several times and changed compression fittings and seals etc to see if any of those were at fault but it continued leaking every time.

In the end I added in a Y splitter (Like a T-Joint but the 2nd section splits off at 45degrees rather than 90) and added a quick disconnect to the end. I am much happier with it functionally now and have used it a couple of times to drain the loop as I wasn't happy with the dye I was using.

Here's an oldish picture but you can see the Y splitter and quick disconnect coming straight out of the bottom of the pump.
