When will we have L1, L2, and L3 cache storage devices?

Your thoughts on if this will ever happen? (Please don't reply to this thread with "I don't know")

I hear that L1 is the most expensive

(Offtopic because it deals with storage AND cpu. So i did not know where to put it) (It also asks peoples opinions on the matter)

EDIT:

Is this even possible?

OFF TOPIC: I suggest every poll from now on to have "**CK EA" option instead of "Other"

what do you mean "storage devices" ?

L cache is stored directly on the CPU

there are no devices

I am saying that will we ever have storage as fast as L cache

i heard somewhere it is fast as blazes

Storage devices will never be as fast as cache simply because cache is part of the CPU meaning it doesn't have to access another device through a certain protocol.

Right now, in terms of storage, NVMe is as fast as things will get for at least a few years.

I've built 3 PC's, but none for myself... In fact, I'm using an iMac that my dad bought for me as my desktop. Awkward...

Please don't say "SSD drive." By doing so, you are literally saying "Solid State Drive Drive" and causing my brain cells to commit suicide. The same applies to HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express).

Cache is SRAM. It's only faster than other storage devices because it's directly attached to the CPU, not because the memory itself is super fast compared to everything else.

I am saying that will we ever have storage as fast as L cache

the only reason why its so fast is because it is directly at the CPU

its just flash memory like any other kind of digital storage

so until some new kind of storage system comes along with an ultra fast interface, no, there will not be external storage that fast

what is more likely to happen is CPU cache increase until its as big as normal storage

right now its still in the tens of MBs, but in the future hopefully we will have GB of it
