Overwatch killing TF2?

So yeah today I read somewhere that alot of pro tf2 teams are disbanding to get ready for competitive overwatch. Personally I don't think overwatch will make it that big because:

1. It's not free. Much less players.

2. Classes don't have other weapons they can equip.

3. Maybe not as easy to run

But that's just my opinion. What's yours? I really wanna know.

Blizzard knows what they're doing. Overwatch will become big because they have one of the best directors in the business. Jeff Kaplan was the person that made WoW what it was during its peak.

It won't surpass TF2, TF2's community is mainly because of it's F2P, the fanbase of TF2 will stick with it because it is free compared to overwatch, overwatch might appeal to professional players but it won't topple Tf2.

yeah... maybe competitive its gona be big.. but.. as you said.. its not free.. so many people wont be playing .. Im one of them... was interested in but.. yeah... paying to play a better tf2 game?????? only blizzard can pull it off

At least they are going the Guild Wars 2 route. Hopefully it'll be kept that way.

The heroes in Overwatch are fun, but it has all of 2 game modes and 8 maps that are all very much the same, IE a long corridor with side paths. The game just isn't worth 40 dollars at this point. Also blizzard have no idea how to support esports, so I don't expect much there.

It won't surpass TF2 simply because TF2 is fun and free to play (with no pay to win) while Overwatch is fun to play, you still need to pay 60$ for it.

However, Blizzard knows how to do shit right. Just take a look at WoW, they charged 15$ a month for 11 years now and people willingly paid up and they paid full prices for expansions too, myself included for 4 years.

I agree that hats are epic. What I find most fun about tf2 is the variety. There are like 162 configuration for the spy before gun mettle. It's like you see something new every time even with like 4000 hours. And then group taunts...... esp when the entire server joins the conga or kazotsk kick. Those are the amazing tf2 moments u play the game for

How so? In terms of esports earnings alone WoW ranked 10th. That's not bad for a game that's in steady decline.

No Heroes of the Storm? It is much more fun than LoL and Dota!

It'll be interesting, but TF2 doesn't have much of an esport user-base to begin with. Also with the $40 buy-in there'll be less people cheating, but there'll probably be less people playing overall.

 

Honestly esport wise people should be comparing Overwatch to CSGO. I know Overwatch isn't a FPS, but it is definitely showing a lot of promise on the competitive side just like CSGO and with Blizzard backing it we could see a pretty big boost in the beginning for tournament support that CSGO did not have.

First of all, People who complain about pay for a Game are ridiculous. Ya, please stay away.

Second, Blizzard are Pro´s. They didn´t had a single Game which wasn´t a huge success. TF2 is still a great Game though, it will survive Overwatch.
