Cheap chinese capaciors, low temperature tolerance of 30*C (most cases are 40*C average while gaming), mediocre voltage regulation and ripple suppression so more wear and tear on other components - you get what you pay for

it's mediocre, it will get you by but i would suggest you invest in a better unit.

I wouldn't. @don_svetlio pretty much nailed it through the head.

I'd forgotten the temperature tolerance. Now I remember looking at the spec a while back and thinking O.o "dafuq that sucks! Humans have a higher temperature tolerance than that. Are you saying humans have higher ambient temperature tolerance than a fan-cooled brick full of transformers?"

Not at the low end.

And they don't make power supplies. They rebrand them from other manufacturers and sell them for a premium. Some are very good. Some are excellent. Others are pretty terrible.

 

You want a PSU made by the company that sells it? Go with Seasonic.

Or get an EVGA power supply. At least they're reputable.

That's because on the surface it looks good. Corsair branding, semi modular, etc. However the detailed specs are terrible, really not good. Only really suitable for a basic PC (ie no GPU, low power CPU, etc.) not a gaming rig like the original post states. Corsair even says so on the website.

Also, like to point out - it's actually perfectly OK to have an i7 and no GPU or an i7 and, say, GTX650 paired with a CX - that's fine. Just don't get a GPU that produces a ton of heat.

Depends on what you're powering. a GTX 960? Sure. An R9 390X? Definitely not.
