Opinions about a monitor upgrade.

SokV

Hello everyone,

I've recently visited a friend's house who bought a new TV for his living room (a 40-inch, ~500€ screen) and we decided to test it out by watching some cinematic trailers of games. The moment I saw the first trailer I was shocked at the quality of the screen, mainly the colors. The only thing I could compare it to was my SyncMaster P2370HD PC monitor, and boy did it look like crap compared to the TV.

After that incident, I decided that I wanted to upgrade my status from filthy peasant to glorious highlord  my monitor, but I faced a problem I couldn't overcome and thus I wanted opinions. The thing is, I play a lot of games on my PC, and as such, I know that a gaming monitor is (or should be) quite different from a standard TV/media-consumption monitor. I understand the importance of low latency, high refresh rates and resolution for playing games, and that these attributes are not found (for a reasonable price) in IPS panels. With that in mind, and given the fact that my GPU is a GTX 660 so it can't really push anything more than 1080p60 and also the fact that I'm coming from that aforementioned P2370HD, my question is: Should I buy an IPS monitor to satisfy my optical needs or should I buy a proper gaming monitor (with g-sync)?

For the moment, my eyes are on this IPS monitor http://www.lg.com/in/monitors/lg-24MP77HM which costs around 270 , so depending on your answer I'd also like a monitor suggestion, if possible!

Thanks in advance!

It does provide everything, but it is too expensive. Plus, at 1440p my GPU wouldn't be able to cope. I was looking for a monitor with <400€ price.
