Seriously, no one should watch his build guides. cx series psu, stock cooler on "ultimate" gaming computer, with unlocked processor and z97 *facepalm*.

And Linus is not?

not really? Carey has named Linus out specifically in one of his videos claiming his channel isn't trustworthy because he does paid overviews and that his videos are better because he builds for real customers

Carey doesn't build computers for overclockers. This should be obvious, almost anyone interested in overclocking won't have their computer built for them. So high performance cooling is not necessary nor a good use of budget.

Overclocking is also not necessary for high performance gaming, so it's perfectly valid to have an "ultimate gaming computer", that is, a computer that can run games very smoothly at high settings, without overclocking.

The power supply used in the "ultimate gaming build" is an RM1000, not a CX series. RM1000 is a fine power supply.

The CX series of power supplies is used in some of his other builds, but contrary to what this forum would have you believe, it is not garbage. It's just ok. And while it may not fit into the unreasonably high PSU standards held here, it's not dangerous to use.

i know he used a rm, but in his newer one he used cx with a 980ti. and he should of used a locked processor instead of a z97 mobo and an unlocked processor...

i found the only forum user that doesnt watch carey holzman to see a train wreck.

carey is a smart guy, but he's a bit cocky, so its pretty obvious he doesnt want to learn the new ways or move away from what he learned many years ago.

The idea being that if you don't take advantage of overclocking, an unlocked processor is more expensive without any other advantage? Not these days.

The base clock on the i7-6700K is significantly higher than the i7-6700 (4.0GHz vs 3.4GHz) so even if you don't overclock, it still has a pretty fair performance advantage. It's a valid choice even if you're not considering overclocking.

as well as SLI only existing on Z chipsets, which is something to take in mind when looking for an upgrade path.

EDIT: as for cx its more so the quality you get for your money that created the hate on the forum, in most areas you can get a high quality PSU for what cx is priced at.

makes it hard to advertise them, doesnt it?
