For games designed around console controllers, you're always better off with a console controller.

An Xbox 360 controller with its wireless dongle is a solid choice. You can connect up to 4 of those controllers off the same dongle in case you have games that support split-screen.

For more point-and-click games that actually use the mouse to select things, you may do better with the track pads of the Steam Controller.

But you will have to get over the learning curve before you're comfortable using it.

For things like FPS games where you aim with the mouse, it's really a matter of what you're used to.

Both an analog stick as well as a track pad have their downsides compared to the plain old mouse.

All that matters is which you're more accustomed to.

So let me ask you: What games did you have in mind to play from the couch? The choice of game means everything when picking the best peripheral for the job.

I was going to get a 360 controller, but after using the Xbone controller I fell in love with it, my hands are bigger than average but not huge. PS4 has a pretty nice sized controller but the Xbone controller is more comfortable to hold for longer periods of time IMO

System: i7 4790K, Hyper 212 EVO, 16 GB Crucial Ballistix, GTX 1070 Super clocked, MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition, Corsair RM 750, Corsair 750D (with 2 additional 140mm NZXT fans up top for exhaust.)

People have been saying this since early release in the middle of october, and I still don't understand. It feels very much like my xbone and DS4 controller. And its actually a bit heavier than a 360 controller.

Honestly I think most of the people who don't like it either don't get it, or are putting it down to being bad because they aren't configuring it properly for themself.

People are still thinking its supposed to be a replacement for either a traditional controller or mouse and keyboard when its not exactly that.

Then theres also the fact that the presets configs aren't the greatest, but honestly that should be expected. There really isn't anything else like this on the market so it'll take time for the community as a whole to find what defaults the general public is best starting off with as defaults.

i wouldn't mind the touchpads...if there would still be two tumbsticks and a standard Dpad too...but even then that wouldnt fix the poor build quality and clicky buttons.

it kinda depends on whether you think developers might start making games with it in mind. tbh I like using it to play civ 5, its the sort of game that I like to play when I just want to kick back and the steam controller is good for that cos its just a bit more convenient in terms of ease of use. and I've never really understood the build quality issue I mean its not the most luxurious thing in the world but the 360 controller wasn't exactly amazing and I had years of fun with that.
