What do you think of this movie/documentary, we started watching it in english today. I actually really like it, and think it is quite powerful in its message, and it really makes you think.

You should watch Chronos, Baraka and Samsara which were also filmed by Ron Fricke.  The sequels to Koyaanisqatsi are Powaqqatsi: Life in transformation and Naqoyqatsi: Life as war.  But I haven't seen the sequels yet either.

Trailer for Samsara

Additionally you should also watch Tom Lowe's Timescapes, though this deals less with global issues.  Timescapes was what convinced me to go digital, when I saw the trailers Tom Lowe was posting to advertise his project.

U gonna h8 lectures in university even more, because they disturb u from science work.

Especially if they are taught by or have anti-science people attending and trying to silence / demand safe zones for every controversial topic or idea that "offends" them.

Maybe, but I mean, like when u already are into some kind of a science work, switching to another material is a crap.

Although, it is proved, that doing science (or other brain-related activity) for entire life can preserve u from alzheimer.

I don't know, I've always found it interesting to explore other fields.  I take inspiration from Richard Feynman who was not just a physicist, but also an artist, a safe cracker, a bongo player, etc.

I might watch that.

We finished Koyaanisqatsi today

I get the feeling 90-95% of people in my class didnt understand/care about it.

Ohh God, it has been maybe ten years since I watched that movie.

I thought the movie was shot brilliantly, but I highly disagreed with its underlying message.

IDK, I kind of agree with it, although everyone might interpret the movie differently.

Basicaly, what I took from it was:

The world is overpopulated

People are destroying the earth

People are always in a hurry

Peoples activity's are meaningless

Simplicity is better

and more

I guess you could get that out of it.

As I see it, the movie was more about how humans are removing themselves from nature and thereby removing themselves from ´beauty´.

The basic message was that we as humans have created a new form of artifical natur, where nothing is unique and everything is in order.

Every iPhone is the same, every street looks the same, everyone has the same jobs, etc.

By removing ourselves from the inherent randomness of nature, we have destroyed the beauty of uniqueness.

There is also an underlying message about how we are destroying nature in our effort to maintain our artificial nature.

Basically, nature has become our source for resources instead of a being a part of our lives as it once was.

I think reading a whole Heideggerian/Kierkegardian analysis of modernity's impact on the lives of people into it, is reading a bit too much into it.

Yeah, that makes sence too, from the movie.
