Some people may find this stupid, and tbh it is, but I am bored of seeing overclocks and wanted to see something different, so lets see who can get their chips to the lowest clock speed and still boot windows, and be fully stable.

RULES:

1. You must have a modern proccessor(no more than 3.5 Years old)

2. Intel and AMD x86_64 chips only

3. Must be 100% stable with a well known stability testing program(Prime95,Cinebench, or OCCT as examples)

4. Dont blame me if you broke your PC

5. Have Fun with this!

Screenshots are preferred for proof.

Ill update this post under this message every once in a while(max 1 week) with the current record(this forum post only):

Current Record Holder: TechFan@ic

Proccessor: AMD FX-8320

Clock Speed: 401.34 MHz

Voltage: 0.984 Volts

Temperature: 7 degrees Celcius

Other Info: Prime95 used to test, Core Temp to monitor Temperature, And CPU-Z for verification

Why would we underclock? Just guessing!

this is about running your PC daily underclocked. This is just a small competition to see who can get the lowest clock speed.

Didn't you hear? Electricity is being rationed and we must game on the lowest settings!

If I had an extra PC to toy around with I'd definitely try to join the club :(

I really want to be able to hit sub-zero temps.

Your can't go lower than the ambient temp.

you can on ln2 or in a freezer, some custom loops can if the ambient is around 15C and you have a really high flow rate, tons of rads, 10 fans on each 120mm spacing in push pull.

Those don't count. At that point, the liquid nitrogen and freezer are measured for the ambient temp.

Proccessor: i7-3630Qm

Clock Speed: 798.18 mhz

Voltage: 0.8055 Volts

Other Info: laptop cpu but it only draws 8.24 watts under 100% load / Throttle stop was used to underclock and monitor / prime 95 used to test

congrats on being the first one you get a virtual cookie! :P

EDIT: but I would like if you could post a screenshot or something as further evidence:)

No more entries? I'm surprised.

No more entries? I'm surprised.

I think most CPU's can run very low, especially with power saving technologies, for example, with C&Q i run my CPU at 1400MHz for most daily tasks (wiring, browsing, movies etc.), and there is convenience of not doing anything in order to run at those low frequencies, that's why, most people do not underclock.

However, i do underclock RAM (from "specification") and motherboard for more stable env.

I think we're going to end up trying the feather the lowest speed at which Windows will boot haha

Hm, how did you dropped BUS speed at 100MHz? My board do not allows me to go bellow 190?? Few days ago i wanted to test system with BUS speed = PCIe speed, and discovered that i can't go bellow 190, is there any trick or I'm just out of luck?

Unless there is some trick, I'm unable to go bellow 190MHz, i get message " ERROR Invalid Input Range".

If you are using the ambient temperature for you cooling i.e. with a heatsink or with a rad (water) you cannot achieve component temps lower than your ambient temperature.

Nice thread, though I question the point of underclocking other than to save electricity bills.

You'll want to pose that to TechFan@tic mate, I haven't touched my BIOS for years haha.
