Upgrading pc

Go to solution Solved by DrDray,

I'm not sure how well Win10 will handle mobo change. You can switch everything else, but drivers get crazy after mobo switch. I've had to do fresh install after changing mobo on SAME chipset and manufacturer. But with Win7.

Well I swapped it over last night and software wise it's running good :)

So I currently have an old q9300, 8gb of ram, an old xfx 9300 motherboard (yes, motherboard), evga660 sc, Intel 120gb ssd, evga 850 watt psu, s340 and a cooler master nepton 240m running Windows 10. I've just bought a 4770k, new motherboard and 8gb of ram to match it but am keeping everything else. I was wondering if I could just use the same Windows install that I currently have, so I could simply swap the parts out and be on my way. Or would I need to do a clean install?

Thanks, Josh

If you have the option to get a high refresh rate monitor, do it.

Unless you're installing a new storage drive you don't need to worry about the OS. You won't need to install it again if you're just upgrading GPU/CPU/MOBO/...

Yeah I'm just not sure, I tried upgrading my gpu from a 560ti to 660 and the drivers clashed and fucked the os, forced me to do a fresh install so now I'm just being cautious :P
