I was gonna get a Xeon E3-1231 v3 this Christmas but after exploring ARK this morning I stumbled across a 1230 v5, which is Skylake based. My questions are:

  1. Will it be out by Christmas (ik it's Q4 this year, but not sure is b4)?
  2. Will it be worth it (considering I will also need new RAM given the mobo I want)
  3. Is it regular socket LGA1151? In other words, do Skylake mobos work with it?

My rig: Intel Core i7-8700K OC 4.8 | NZXT Kraken X62 | ASUS Z370-F | 16 GB Trident Z RGB 3000 (2x8) | EVGA 1070 SC | EVGA SuperNova NEX650G1 | NZXT H700 | Samsung 250GB 850-EVO | 2x 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDDs

lol no that's only E5 and those use LGA2011 which includes X79/X99 mobos

According to this, looks like it's already out

http://www.amazon.com/Intel-BX80662E31230V5-E3-1230V5-FCLGA1151-THREADS/dp/B016TQ81JU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1448045478&sr=8-1&keywords=xeon+E3+1230+v5

Heard that Xeon Skylake, might not work with consumer based chipset like the Z170, so you'll have to grab board that uses a server base chipset. The thing with server based boards is, it lacks consumer base features, so to find one that has it, is rare. Gigabyte, so far is the one I've see that has it.

Unless someone is going to take a risk and try a Skylake Xeon on their Z170 boards, then there is no other choice but to grab a server based board. Want a nice color board, then it's only the Core i7. Would be nice, they make server based boards that look like consumer ones. But I doubt that will happen.
