Painting Hyper 212

So i want to spray my 212 to go with the black and red theme i have going on, i either want to paint it black or red. what paint should i use and has any one done this with the 212 cooling a 4690k? what are the temps like?

temps will only be affected 1-5C. NCIX did a video on this I believe.

why not just put red and black fans on it?

I am not sure this is a good idea unless there is some type of paint that doesn't prevent heat from escaping from metal.

Temps won't be affected much so long as the paint doesn't drip and gloop - that'll insulate the metal.

 

If you want to make a compromise, just paint the top fin. I mean,that's mostly what people will see, right?

well, you could get a Corsair H60 for ~$50, no shine, completely black, and a better cooler

Anodize it and you won't lose any performance, there are ways to do it at home just look up a few guides.

ok, but a hyper 212 is always a good thing to have around (its great for a backup), and the H60 is inexpensive, black, and liquid cooled.

 

if youre set on painting, then go for it, but i feel that this solution is a bit more elegant, if not as baller

Use thermal conducting paint. Most hardware stores and/or craft stores sell this kinda thing

in general it will be around 5-10C as others have said, usually it's not recommended for that reason, alternatively you can try painting only the top plate which will not affect cooling temps.

there will be a difference, id suggest just spray the top plate since you dont see the rest because the fan block them

I you are just going to paint the top I'd mask off the heat pipes, then use an etching primer, followed by any decent acrylic.
