I recently zapped my motherboard with static electricity-I felt it happen so I'm sure. At the time, my CPU was fitted in the motherboard socket so I'm worried that I may have also damaged the CPU. Is this likely the case or is it something more unlikely to have happened?

Highly unlikely. It is also very possible that you shocked the ground plane on the board, which would have damaged a total of nothing

I used my old CPU to test the mobo I zapped which confirmed the mobo was broken. I got a new mobo but am worried that if I put the new CPU in it, which could be damaged, that I could damage the new motherboard?

A damaged cpu won't damage a motherboard. Unless the bottom is damaged in such a way that it will cause physical damage to the socket.

If you fried the cpu, the cpu will simply not work. But honestly, its kind of hard to kill a cpu with esd to the motherboard. The voltages required to do so would likely cause significant pain from the esd
