What IS the hum sound coming from Pc's?

This is something that I've always wondered. Is it the cpu cooler? The psu? (eco mode off or whatever). Harddrive? WHAT IS IT? I've asked a couple of my friends and they just said everything. Like literally everything in your computer together makes that sound. Is there a definite answer? Thanks.

The combination of any mechanical movement, may that be the fans, the hdd powering up or coil wine in your gpu, all of it combines to produce that lovely purr.

It's the hard drive.

Huh, I never thought that it could be the hdd. How about a cpu cooler? Like (googles popular cpu cooler) Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO .

Yes, CPU cooler's have fans, which can cause noise.

Fans and HDD. Basicly all moving parts inside there combine in one constant hum. There's also something what called electric hum, but you only hear that in electronics without moving parts.

Everything that's moving basically....

So that'll be like CPU Cooler, PSU, GPU, HDD.

Maybe should have added OLDER electronics. One building basement has high voltage switch closed which makes scary loud humming noise. I'm pretty sure those don't have fans inside. Older TVs when in standby mode.

IMO It's Fan turbulence around the grills or mounts most of the time....

A number of parts can create the noises you hear....

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

In many cases(badum tss) the hum probably comes from a flimsy case that allows vibrations from fans,

the hdd and so forth resonate throughout the case.

And hows that logical that there is sound from electronics without moving parts? Any examples?

Sound essentially is vibrations in the air. High energy/heat, stuff operating at different frequencies

regardless of what you perceive as traditional movement has the potential to cause that. Never

heard a noisy fuse box? a street light, very powerful light humming? nothing?

Just hold your hand against the side panel of your case; if you've got enough case fans and hard drives mounted inside, you'll actually feel the whole case vibrate slightly. Since the noise you perceive is basically just vibrating air, it should come as no surprise that a vibrating case (not to mention the moving parts inside) also produces noise. Normally this noise is of such low volume that it is inaudible over the wind noise created by case fans, but if any of these vibrations hit the resonance frequency of any part inside the case, it can get pretty damn loud indeed.
