got two 980ti Hybrids from EVGA, by far the best choice I made. Dead silent and oced to 1490mhz, might be able to push 1500 but its nice and stable atm after 12 hour stress test.

Gaming ? get MSI Gaming, OC ? get MSI Lightning / ASUS Matrix

thats not really cool right now, because nearly every brand got that kind of thing :( /sad

If OC'ing and serious about it, and money is no issue, then the KPE is the best in the business.

If serious about OC'ing and money is an issue, then Matrix/Lightning for sure.

Not massively serious about OC'ing seeing as I've never actually done it before and it scares the shit out of me that I might damage my shiny expensive new card :(

AMP! Extreme.

I did look at the Zotac stuff although I've not had any experience at all with anything from them nor do I know anyone who that has, the name never got mentioned so I'm not entirely sure what to think about their stuff.

It has a 1255 MHz core clock out of the box, which is the highest out of any 980 Ti.

Any idea what their build quality is usually like etc?  Looking at some of the reviews it looks good minus how big it is and can sag

Build quality is good, I did a build with one and man, is that card durable.

It's tempting as I was actually looking at this card a while back when I was thinking of getting one before.  I'll have to double check my PCI-E configs but it may end up going with it really.

They'd cover it even for a dodgy OC?

As long as the card doesn't like spontaneously combust yes they'll accept it.

As someone who owned an MSI 6G - don't bother. Pay the extra for the Lightning if you're going that way or get a different card.

If you don't have any issue with dealing with coil whine Gigabyte's G1 is good. I see it on offer for £529-539 also which is comparatively cheap. (Most retailers)

Here in the UK price wise the normal aircooled HoF can also be gotten for £539 which is the same price as most of the mid range cards:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pc-components/graphics-cards/nvidia/geforce-gtx-980-ti

The Palit Super Jetstream is £526 at Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_nr_p_76_0?fst=as%3Aoff&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3A980+Ti%2Cp_76%3A419158031&keywords=980+Ti&ie=UTF8&qid=1447698348&rnid=419157031

I wouldn't ever recommend choosing a cad based on its colour - but if you really want red or black then go for a Classified.

Yeah I'd never choose a card based on colour alone, to be honest I don't care to much about the colour scheme.  I'm still leaning more towards the Zotac at the moment

Also don't bother.

The box-stated clockspeeds for all the non reference 980Ti means squat. They literally all use the exact same gpu and what you will get out of it is whatever the silicon lottery dictates. Gpu boost 2.0 can and will take the clockspeed past whatever each manufacturer states.

That and the build quality of the rest of the card.

This is why you never see the Amp! Extreme at the top of the HWBot submissions - this is despite it having a higher out of the box speed than cards that destroy it (Kingpin, Lightning, HoF).

Hmmmm Never thought of that before to be honest.

For a complete and utter nub who may or may not OC, what would you recommend?

May not reply for a bit as I'll be away for a few hours.

In the I've never-owned-one-but-reviews-are-good category: Palit Super Jetstream for its low price.

Owned: Gigabyte G1 (mine was sent back due to me being sensitive to coil whine but it was a beast performance wise).

I kept my Strix Tis because they both boost quite high from default settings (1440) run cool and are relatively quiet- but a lot of people complain about them because they don't know how to edit a fan curve. Or setup their case airflow correctly.

Anything else, depends on your willingness to spend. I would side with the Classified (£570) or Lightning (£620).

I'll have a look at them now thanks!

I have a 980 Ti Lightning and it's the perfect card for the money. A few things to consider; it's a 13" GPU, the card weights 5 lbs, and it requires 2x8 pin + 1x6 pin power. Otherwise it boosts to a respectable clock speed and its very quiet while keeping the temperatures under control. The card is really quiet and performs like a beast, the build quality is very good, almost too good actually.

The size / power requirements are fine, I can definitely handle those, weight should be okay, the sag did worry me a bit initially but from what I've been reading its not really a massive concern (I hope?)

If you want a real Monster, get the amp!extreme.

Its on the the list ^^
