Safe to assume CPU DOA?

Ok, so I have an i3-4150, and a Z87-C motherboard.

I've slotted in a G3220 to update the BIOS, it's now at v.2103.

 

The computer was working fine, I swapped the i3 in.

Restart.

Computer displays the same issues I had before I updated the BIOS. Turns on, stays on, nothing outputs to the displays.

 

Build is as follows:

 

Z87-C motherboard

Ballistix RAM

Fury SSD

HIS 7970

 

Pretty safe to assume the CPU is DOA?

Yes it does.

I downloaded the first file from the Asus site. I believe it's the BIOS + Uploader.

It did freeze at 99% but I left it for 20 minutes, and rebooted. It worked fine after that.

if there is an LCD there will be a two character code. Otherwise there should be a beeping noise.

I encountered this same issue with a Z87A a couple weeks ago. Use the Pentium, install windows then flash using the Asus utility. Works every time. For some reason or other the BIOS utility and the USB boot one were corrupting every time. Took me several hours to figure it out.

Nothing goes to the display, it doesn't detect that it's even connected.

If the G3220 works fine, I reckon there's something either wrong with the BIOS or the CPU itself.

Yeah that's kind of what I gathered as well.

Worth it to flash the BIOS again? Does that have any potential of damaging it further?

Haha, I've never known NCIX to do something without a fee attached to it.

If they charge $50, which would make sense, then I'm better off just RMA'ing the CPU and buying something else.

Plus the hours of hassle getting it there and back.

I've emailed 9 other small computer shops as I figured they'd flash the BIOS for me on the cheaper side without having to buy a G3220. No dice.

I'm dealing with gigabyte and their support gets a 1/10 for me. And that is only because they didn't ask for a receipt. Kingston on the other hand <3

Oh I know lol. I had my 4670k swapped into my friends board back and forth at least a dozen times. Got so frustrated I stopped putting the heatsink on it and just ran it bare for the 3.5 seconds I needed to test it.

Ok, so new problem. I downloaded the AI Suite, unpacked it and clicked on every SetUp EXE there was.

None of them work.

I've tried running them as Admin, that doesn't help either.

 

I'm starting to see why people just buy consoles if they only want to game. This is more headache than it's worth.

Asus can be a pain software wise. Instead of using the whole suite try just downloading EZ Updater. It should have its own separate entry in the utilities list underneath the AI suite entry.

I tried that as well, same problem.

That... really makes no sense at all. Did you extract the entire archive? Which exe are you running?

Yes. I've ran every single exe in every folder.

It's documented here. Naturally, the links the person gave to fix the issue are no longer valid.
