Is it worth it?

Go to solution Solved by minibois,

No, not worth it. You want see an increase in fps or whatever. In games, the 3770K performs just as good as a 6600K and the DDR4 instead of DDR3 wont make a difference in current games too.

But that's just my opinion.

I'm planning on upgrading my CPU, mobo, and RAM, is the following worth the expense?

Current:

3770k

Z77 Sabertooth

DDR3 16GB 1866MHz CL9

Upgrade:

6600K

Z170 Hero VIII

DDR4 16GB 3000MHz CL15

My PC is pretty much only used for gaming, will the improvement be noticeable, or is it not worth it?

IMO, you won't get much performance boost. Your current build is fine.

If I was to do that upgrade I would go for the 6700K. Newer games are starting to use the extra threads.

The 3770K has the same amount of threads as the 6700k.. Both are i7's.

Thanks, pretty much the answer I expected but I didn't know if the new 14nm architecture would make a difference.

If you want to improve gaming performance get a better GPU

I'm not a big fan of SLI.  While the 980Ti can't make 60fps on all games at my resolution, I think I'll stick with a single GPU for now.
